During my Photography studies at Ohio University, my Professor came into the classroom (where all of our photo assignments were laid out on tables. He made his way to mine, and asked whose they were. I raised my hand, and he proceeded to say…”These are the worst photographs I have ever seen.” Being that I was on a mission…I simply asked him…”why? ” Arnold Gassan (who worked closely with Ansel Adams) went on to explain, that as far as the assignment was concerned, my effort was a miserable failure. However, he went on to say that he wished he had photos of all of his friends & family that looked like my photos looked. I listened and applied his expertise to my knowledge base. To this day, the smallest of details of what I am supposed to accomplish on your photography & videography project, are of the utmost importance to me. Years ago, I was recruited to start-up a Digital Photography Studio for a Pre-Press House that began to lose business, due to Digital Photography finally being good enough to be used for commercial print work. Three years later, I announced that I was venturing out into my own Commercial Photography business. The Owner of this business told me (and I will never forget it)…she said…”Oh Jeff, if you had your own business…you couldn’t even open your doors.” What she didn’t know about me, is that when someone doubts my ability, thinks I can’t do something, or that something can’t be done; that just fuels my motivation to find a way to do it. This is the kind of thing I was used to hearing; and it always propelled me to prove my ability. I want to thank Betty Pangrace for her challenging, not so kind, but motivating words, as I went on to established my photography business…that so far…has won two national awards for Commercial Photography.

Well into my career, I was meeting with the President of an Advertising Agency in California. We were going over a project, and my estimate to do that project. Something was taking place, that had occurred a many times before. He wanted me to do the work for him. But he wanted me to do it for another, less accomplished, less experienced Photographer’s price. As I was trying to explain or “justify” my pricing (which btw is way more than fair) he simply interrupted me, and said…”Jeff, nobody cares!” I tried again to explain that my cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment. He interrupted me again…”Jeff, nobody cares!” A third attempt was made…”yeah but my power packs, computers, monitors“…was met with the same interruption…”Jeff, nobody cares!” Dear Vintage Foster…I care! And so do the people that not only want to keep their business ahead of the competition; but want to help keep me in business as well, so I can continue to serve them again in the future with professional Photography and Videography that gets you the results you want and need for your business to grow and thrive.
