“Retouching is an integral part of the professional Photography process. I love being able to finesse it myself, and make sure the final image represents my vision, and the client’s needs.”
Move the slider all the way to the right of the image. This is the original photo. The Apple Table was shot by itself. This was an introductory piece just to show what it looked like, and where it would sit in the stores. Later, Apple needed to show how the table would be used to help customers (move the slider to the left side of the image). However, the store, and the table were not available, and it had to get done. So, I shot the people in studio, and matched lighting of the store to make them look like they were really in the store, and at the Apple Table.
A composite of three images. The anonymous fireman was photographed in studio on one of five canvas I painted for an automobile project. I added a little blast from my smoke machine for an interesting effect.
The only time I could get shots of the students in this Denver Colorado High School, moving through the halls like data through cables, was actually in-between classes. I had ten minutes to get these images for the background blur in the final image.
I photographed a piece of galvanized metal to use for the background, and used some gels to match the company’s colors.
Apple needed to send out Holiday uniforms and instructions on how to wear their lanyards at a specific length. However, they had no red Holiday shirts, and also no decision on where the lanyards should sit when I had to shoot this image. I shot this image in very green window light, with a white wall in the background. Definitely not the best conditions for photography. I adjusted the color of the image, retouched the shine off their faces, changed the color of the shirts to red, and lowered the length of the lanyards to spec…and then made sure the background was pure white.
Photographed in natural window light, and Retouched new Screen for Apple Sales Training.
I shot the image of the empty Training Table in Apple’s Mock Store. Months later, Apple needed an image of a Sales Person and Customer going over a new product at the Training Table. The Mock Store was not available for a shoot, and they needed the image ASAP. So I photographed the people in studio at a fake table to match the empty table, and then retouched them into the original shot. Where there is a will…there is a way!
A simple screen replacement.
The problem with products that get manufactured over a period of time is the fluctuation in color of the plastics. In this grouping, there were several variations that needed to be corrected, and match the correct Pantone color of the product. Then, I gave them some life by illuminating the LED’s that were not able to be on at time of capture. A lot of times I photograph prototypes that do not work.
Taking people off a white background and putting them on a darker background is not easy…but with attention to detail, and some experience and knowledge, it can be done.
In this photo, I actually just changed the color of the background…keeping the natural shadow!
Photo Manipulation
I photographed a bunch of Small Business Owners on white for Yahoo to place on different backgrounds. Making the subject look like it is meant to be the environment is very important. I added some of the Yahoo purple to the overall image to make it look natural.
